St. Joseph County Public Librarys’ LaSalle Branch set to reopen in May post renovation

The St. Joe County Public Library will reopen its LaSalle Branch on May 4, 2026, following a year-long renovation that reimagines the space for connection, creativity, and community use. Closed since May 11, 2025, the newly renovated branch introduces expanded, modernized spaces designed to better serve patrons of all ages.

The renovation includes a 2,000-square-foot addition, creating flexible spaces for group collaboration, events, and community use. The new space will function as a community art studio, lounge, and reservable meeting area.

Inside, patrons will find a fully refreshed interior featuring updated furniture, lighting, paint, and carpeting. The interior features a mural by Local Artist Kamika Perry, and patrons will pass by a sculpture by African artist Nickson Muti as they enter and exit the branch’s new entryway.

A redesigned children’s play area introduces a travel theme, inspired by the branch’s proximity to the airport and commuter rail, encouraging young visitors to imagine and explore.

A brand-new art studio provides patrons with a space to create, explore, and connect with others. It’s open to all skill levels. A self-serve locker makes it easy for those 13+ to check-out art kits and equipment with a library card for use within the studio. Equipment available for check-out includes everything from paints and pastels to jewelry-making kits and sewing machines.

Outside, enhanced landscaping with native flowers, grasses, and shrubs creates a welcoming environment that supports local pollinators.

“This renovation reflects our commitment to creating spaces where people can gather, learn, and connect,” said Stephanie Murphy, Executive Director of the St. Joe County Public Library. “We’re excited to welcome the community back to a space that feels both familiar and entirely new.”

The LaSalle Branch will open on May 4th at 9 am, but the official ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place from 4-6 pm on May 12th, 2026.
