On Saturday, June 20th, the Gary Educational Development Foundation hosted its 51st Annual Scholarship Luncheon at St. Timothy Community Church in Gary. The organization exists to provide monetary resources in the form of scholarships and educational experiences to students in the Gary Community School Corporation.
During the luncheon scholars received words of encourage from a host of attendees including Executive Director Charius Anderson, Gary Schools Chief of Public and Community Relations Chelsea Whittington, Retired Superintendent and volunteer Dr. Myrtle Campbell and Powers & Sons Construction CEO Mamon Powers, Jr.
“It was such an honor to recognize these young scholars who have worked so hard to get to the next chapter of their lives,” said Whittington, “GEDF provides significant resources that help propel and encourage them to keep going.”
A total of $106,700 in scholarships were awarded thanks to gifts and endowments from scores of loyal supporters of the foundation.
“We couldn’t do this great work without them,” said Anderson. “The generosity of our donors continues to grow which means the opportunities for youth to be blessed increases.”
