Gary Air Show Returns with New Addition:Twilight Drone & Pyro Show

One of the Midwest’s most anticipated summer events is set to soar back to the South Shore as the Gary Air Show Weekend returns August 21-23, 2026. Presented by the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority (SSCVA), the City of Gary, Gary Chicago International Airport, and Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana, the three-day celebration will feature exciting aviation performances over Lake Michigan, family-friendly entertainment, and a dazzling drone and pyro show to kick off the weekend.

The festivities begin on Friday evening, August 21, with a spectacular twilight show, then a drone and pyro show over the lake. As darkness falls over the shoreline, hundreds of illuminated drones will take flight above the water, creating stunning images and animations in the night sky, accompanied by dazzling planes and pyrotechnic effects reflected across the lake. The show will serve as an unforgettable opening to a weekend filled with excitement.

The action continues Saturday and Sunday, August 22-23, as world-class aerial performers take to the skies. Spectators can look forward to high-speed flyovers, precision aerobatics, military demonstrations, historic aircraft, and gravity-defying maneuvers that showcase the skill and sheer power of aviation.

Marquette Park will once again serve as the primary viewing location. Nestled along the shores of Lake Michigan and adjacent to Indiana Dunes National Park, the historic park provides visitors with a front-row seat to the aerial action while offering stunning lake views and easy access to beaches and trails.

Throughout the weekend, attendees can enjoy a lively festival atmosphere featuring food vendors, exhibitor displays, family activities, interactive experiences, and entertainment for all ages. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and spend the day at the beach.

“This air show has become much more than an event. It’s a celebration of our lakefront and the incredible experiences visitors can enjoy throughout Northwest Indiana,” said Phil Taillon, President/CEO of the SSCVA. “Whether you’re watching aircraft soar above Lake Michigan or experiencing the inaugural Friday twilight drone and pyro show, this is a weekend that will create lasting memories for families and aviation fans alike.”

Visitors are encouraged to extend their stay by exploring the Miller Beach neighborhood, checking out local restaurants and attractions, and discovering the many recreational opportunities found throughout the South Shore.
