Welcome Mr. Keith Kilmer Slated as the new Hobart High School Athletic Director

The School City of Hobart is proud to announce the recommendation of Keith Kilmer as the next Athletic Director at Hobart High School. Mr. Kilmer brings more than 30 years of coaching, teaching, and athletic administration experience to Hobart athletics and is slated to begin his leadership of the Brickie athletic program this summer.

Mr. Kilmer has built a reputation throughout Northwest Indiana for servant leadership, relationship building, and a strong commitment to education-based athletics. Most recently, he served as Assistant Athletic Director at Lowell High School, where he helped oversee athletic operations, facility scheduling, event management, student leadership initiatives, and community engagement. His extensive experience hosting sectional and conference events across multiple sports made him a standout candidate for the role.

A graduate of Franklin College with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Mr. Kilmer later earned his master’s degree from Olivet Nazarene University. He is also a Certified Athletic Administrator through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and a Certified Interscholastic Coach through the National Federation of State High School Associations.

Mr. Kilmer began his career in education at Lowell Middle School in 1995, teaching mathematics and physical education before moving to Lowell High School in 2010. In addition to serving as Lowell Middle School Athletic Director from 2003-2010, he has served as Lowell High School Assistant Athletic Director since 2010.

As a coach, Mr. Kilmer has enjoyed tremendous success throughout his career. He served as Head Football Coach at Lowell High School from 2010-2024, compiling a 115-60 record while leading the Red Devils to six sectional championships, two regional championships, and a 4A Semi-State Championship in 2017. He was named IFCA Region 1 Coach of the Year five times and earned The Times of Northwest Indiana Coach of the Year honors in 2017. As Head Boys Track Coach from 2005-2013, he also guided teams to conference championships while earning multiple Coach of the Year recognitions.

Beyond the sidelines, Mr. Kilmer has been heavily involved in leadership roles across the state through the Indiana Football Coaches Association, including serving as IFCA President during the 2023-2024 school year. He currently serves as the IFCA Clinic Chairman and has been a featured speaker at Indiana High School Athletic Association Student Leadership Conferences, IIAAA Conferences, and the NIAAA National Conference. In recognition of his leadership and service, he was recently awarded both the IFCA John Friend Distinguished Service Award and the IFCA Hub Etchison Distinguished Service Award.

Mr. Kilmer’s philosophy centers on creating positive experiences for all student-athletes while building programs that make the community proud and are respected throughout the state. He believes athletics are an extension of the classroom and should help students develop character, leadership, teamwork, resilience, and accountability.

“At Hobart High School, my vision for athletics is to build a student-centered program rooted in pride, tradition, hard work, and opportunity for all,” Kilmer said. “The Brickie athletic program should reflect the spirit of the community — resilient, hardworking, and united. My goal is to lead a program that makes the Hobart community proud and is respected throughout the state for its sportsmanship, integrity, competitiveness, and commitment to education-based athletics.”

He added, “I am incredibly honored and excited for the opportunity to join Hobart High School and become part of the Brickie community. Hobart has a proud athletic tradition, passionate community support, and a strong commitment to students. I look forward to working alongside coaches, staff, student-athletes, families, and the community to continue building programs that represent Hobart with pride and class.”

Keith and his wife, Kim Kilmer, have dedicated their careers to education, athletics, and serving students and their communities. Hobart High School looks forward to welcoming Keith and Kim Kilmer to the Brickie community and to the future of Hobart athletics under his leadership.
