The Courtyard at the Brooks celebrates model home groundbreaking with South Shore Homes and the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce

On Tuesday, July 28, South Shore Homes and the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce gathered at 2800 Trailway Lane for an afternoon celebration of The Courtyard at the Brooks’ new model home groundbreaking. The community was invited to connect with future neighbors and enjoy Valpo Velvet Ice Cream.

Chris Knight, co-founder of the Brooks and partner with South Shore Homes, noted that there is plenty of energy for this multi-year project putting shovels to the dirt and getting started with the building process.

“It’s really exciting for us as a company, but it’s even more exciting for a lot of our customers,” Knight said. “The timing of the model home and our clubhouse groundbreaking is so close to each other — it makes this even more special for all of our clients.”

Built by South Shore Homes, The Courtyards at The Brooks is Valparaiso’s active adult community for residents ages 55 and older. The community is designed to create comfort, connection, and freedom. This community offers more time for residents to do what they love while exterior maintenance is handled for them.

With more than 50 acres of preserved green space, more than three miles of scenic trails, resting points, and a native butterfly garden, residents can enjoy a lifestyle that blends neighbors and nature together. Residents can gather at the centrally located clubhouse for social gatherings, neighborhood events, and private celebrations. Along with a family-friendly pool, the community features fish-stocked ponds, streams, and wooded views.

This groundbreaking not only signaled a new chapter, but it also recognized the Founders – the first homeowners whose vision and confidence helped bring this community to life.

“We’re putting the model in, and that’s just the first sign of what’s to come throughout here. We’ve been working behind the scenes here for about three or four years now,” Knight said. “As a part of our first development, it’s a big driving force towards the other ones taking off.”

With this new product on the market, Knight hopes that people will be able to see the emphasis that Epcon Communities has on community-centered living.

“All of our contractors are local to the community. All of our suppliers are local to the community,” Knight said. “It’s part of what we’re building here. This is a very elevated product – a new product to this area. They did Epcon 15 years ago for The Courtyards at Pepper Creek. We’re adding a lot of elements to it to give our buyers more options to make their dream house become a reality.”

Chuck Williams, co-founder of The Brooks, is excited to kick off the groundbreaking phase for this model home. He’s appreciative of the work that Epcon Communities has done to bring it into fruition.

“I really want to thank Chris for putting this together with Epcon, along with the rest of the team. We’re really looking forward to filling a real need of limited maintenance housing here in Valpo,” Williams said.

Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas describes how the opportunities for customization are possible with The Courtyards at the Brooks.

“It’s a neighborhood; it’s a mixture of a lot of different types of housing, which is exactly what you need to meet today’s consumer needs,” Costas said. “It’ll add a good opportunity for home buyers in the northwest part of our city.”

As the Valparaiso community continues to grow, The Courtyards at the Brooks will help bring new faces into an environment that has amenities and an inviting neighborhood.

“I commend Chuck for having the vision to make this thing happen, and it just continues to just grow and grow,” Costas said. “We’re growing, but not at a crazy rate – at a nice solid rate, which is what you want. People want to live here. We’re a community of choice, and we’ve got to give that choice when it comes to housing.”
