With summer officially underway, students and families kicked off the season in style at Deep River Waterpark’s School’s Out SPLASHabration on Sunday, June 28. The celebration gave guests the perfect opportunity to dive into summer fun with a full day of water attractions, entertainment, and family-friendly activities.
Whether it was long-time splashers or first-time visitors walking through the front gate, the night helped generate excitement for what the waterpark has in store for the upcoming months. Nicole Drexler, general manager at Deep River Waterpark, noted that these celebrations have quickly become a tradition.
“We started doing our own private events a few years ago, starting with our Taylor Swift Night,” Drexler said. “This year, we decided to bring them back once again, and it’s super exciting to have all the families celebrate school being out for the summer by splashing with us.”
Another benefit to the SPLASHabration event is the opportunity for families to visit the waterpark for a discounted rate. The celebration ran from 5:30-8:30 p.m., and anyone who bought tickets in advance was able to visit the park as early as 4 p.m. for a discounted rate with their party.
“For many families, parents or grandparents probably have work throughout the day, so this is an extra opportunity for those people as well,” Drexler said. “Coming from a family of myself and my husband, we also fall into that dynamic. We want to maximize that opportunity where the kids aren’t up too late but can still come out and celebrate the experience.”
While Deep River Waterpark has some plans for innovative opportunities for waterpark attendees throughout the summer, the SPLASHabration has successfully worked as an event to encourage people to come back multiple times throughout the summer.
“It’s a great starting point for us to open our special evening events for the summer with our SPLASHabration,” Drexler said. “We also have our Adult Only Night SPLASHathon just two weeks after, which will be the first time we’ve ever done something like this here. We also will have our Back to School SPLASHaganza near the end of the summer.”
Body slides, river rides, ice cream, funnel cakes, waves, shops – Deep River Waterpark has long been the host site to a set of exhilarating amenities that are hard to find anywhere else. Last year, the waterpark celebrated its 30th anniversary, a feat that not many waterparks achieve. While last year was a big summer celebration, it was such a success that Drexler and the Deep River Waterpark team are motivated to give the visitors more opportunities to create memories this year.
“The biggest thing is to welcome people in and let them know that our staff is ready to greet them,” Drexler said. “Whether they are buying or scanning their ticket, we want them to know that we’re glad to welcome them in for another exciting season.”
By the end of the evening, many families left the park with an eagerness to return for later summer events. While the SPLASHabration might be more oriented towards the kids for completing another successful academic year, it presents a chance for people of all ages to unite and splash together.
“We want people to know that we are a family-friendly park,” Drexler said. “You, your entire family – grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle – we want everyone here, and we really try to hit home for this with the SPLASHabration.”
