SCEC Joins in Celebrating First-Ever Legacy Ball: Dancing with the Stars

The I Too Sing America Organization of NWI, Inc. hosted the inaugural East Chicago Legacy Ball: Dancing with the Stars, a community celebration honoring the proud history of East Chicago schools and the people who continue to shape its legacy. Alumni and supporters from Central, Roosevelt, and Washington High Schools came together for an evening of fun, recognition, and support for the next generation of students.

The School City of East Chicago was well-represented throughout the evening. Superintendent Dr. Stephen D. Bournés and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Leslie Yanders competed in the spirited dance competition, showcasing their Cardinal pride in front of alumni, staff, and families. In addition, several members of the SCEC family were honored, including Trustee Rodriguez, Centeria Artis, Sylvia Alvarez, Hilda Tarver Richmond, Grayling Gordon, Ronnie Edmonds, and Coach Alaa. Their recognition highlighted the lasting impact of educators and leaders who continue to make a difference in East Chicago.

Proceeds from the Legacy Ball will benefit the Performing Arts, the Legacy Seat Campaign, and scholarships for East Chicago students, reinforcing the shared commitment to education and opportunity. Events like the Legacy Ball remind us of the power of our history, the strength of our community, and the bright future ahead for our students. The School City of East Chicago extends its gratitude to I Too Sing America Organization of NWI, Inc. for creating a meaningful event that honors the past while investing in the future.
