Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder — and in this case, that beholder is behind the camera, capturing some of life’s most intimate and memorable moments. The camera handles the technical work, but it’s the photographer who is trusted to seek out, curate, and capture lasting memories.
At Andi Renee Studios, a luxury photography and experience-based brand focused on creating meaningful connections and celebrating life’s milestones, owner Andrea Swanson has built her career around capturing those moments one exposure at a time.
“As a wife and mother of five boys, my family has always been my greatest priority. One of my sons has significant health challenges, and I quickly realized that a traditional job wouldn’t always allow me the flexibility I needed to be present for doctor appointments, hospital visits, and the unexpected moments that come with caring for a child with medical needs,” said Swanson.
“Photography became a way for me to build a career while creating a life where my family came first. What started as a passion for capturing memories grew into a business that allowed me to support my family while still being available when my son needed me most.”
Creative work rarely follows a straight path. While pursuing a creative career often starts with passion, refining the craft takes years of hands-on effort — hours spent editing photos, staging shoots, and shooting picture after picture until the work reflects the vision.
“Over the years, I invested in workshops, education, mentorships, and hands-on experience to refine my craft and grow as both an artist and entrepreneur. What began as a small photography business has evolved into Andi Renee Studios,” said Swanson. “Looking back, some of the biggest challenges our family faced became the driving force behind building a business that gives me the freedom to be both a dedicated mother and a business owner. For that, I’m incredibly grateful.”
Swanson is passionate about helping others and staying connected to her community, and that starts with how she connects with each client. Capturing intimate moments requires a sense of vulnerability from both the subject and the photographer, which is why the studio built its “You-nique” approach: tailoring every session to the individual.
“Every person who walks through our doors has a different story, personality, and vision. Our ‘You-nique’ approach means we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all experiences,” said Swanson.
“Whether it’s a wedding, family portrait, boudoir session, destination experience, branding shoot, or one of our unique wedding offerings, we focus on making our clients feel seen, heard, and celebrated. From personalized consultations to customized products and experiences, our goal is for every client to walk away feeling like their session was designed specifically for them, because it was,” said Swanson.
The Michiana community has welcomed Swanson and her business with open arms, and that relationship has only grown stronger over the years. Andi Renee Studios has become an extension of the community itself — a reflection of the hardworking, close-knit spirit of the area.
“One of my favorite things about Michiana is how people come together during difficult times. I’ve seen businesses, organizations, and individuals rally around families in need, support local causes, and celebrate one another’s successes. That spirit of community aligns perfectly with who we are as a family and as a business,” said Swanson.
Swanson’s success comes with some encouraging words for anyone considering entrepreneurship.
“Don’t wait until you feel ready because you may never feel completely ready. Most importantly, remember your ‘why.’ When challenges come, and they will, your purpose is what will keep you moving forward,” said Swanson.
“Success doesn’t happen overnight. It comes from consistency, learning from mistakes, investing in yourself, and continuing to grow even when things are difficult. Focus on serving people well, building genuine relationships, and staying true to your values.”
“I would also encourage aspiring entrepreneurs and creatives to never stop learning. Attend workshops, seek mentors, ask questions, and be willing to evolve. The most successful people I know are the ones who remain teachable.”
When she’s not behind the camera, Swanson is spending time with family, which she places at the center of everything she does.
“As a wife and mother of five boys, a lot of my free time is spent making memories with them, supporting their activities, and simply enjoying life together,” said Swanson.
“I also love traveling and experiencing different cultures. Whether it’s exploring a new country, learning local traditions, or meeting people from different backgrounds, travel has become one of my greatest passions and sources of inspiration. Some of my favorite experiences have combined photography, education, and cultural immersion, allowing me to connect with people from all walks of life.”
Giving back has always been part of who she is, and she enjoys enriching her community through philanthropy and other forms of support.
Some of Swanson’s proudest moments have nothing to do with awards or business milestones. They’re the moments she’s helped a family in need, supported a local cause, organized a wedding giveaway for a deserving couple, raised awareness for an important community issue, or created an experience someone will cherish for the rest of their life.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the clients, friends, family members, and community supporters who have been part of this journey. And while Andi Renee Studios has grown and evolved over the years, the heart behind it remains the same: creating meaningful connections, celebrating life’s most important moments, and leaving people better than I found them,” said Swanson.
“I believe success isn’t measured solely by what we achieve for ourselves, but by how many lives we impact along the way.”
