KVIS Celebrates 10th Season of Girls on the Run

Kankakee Valley Intermediate School (KVIS) completed its 10th season of Girls on the Run with 21 students participating in the program. The season concluded with the Girls on the Run 5K at Valparaiso University on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

Girls on the Run is a nonprofit youth development program that uses physical activity and running to build confidence, life skills, and emotional health in girls. This season included 16 curriculum-based lessons designed to help participants become confident communicators, empathetic listeners, and engaged members of their communities.

Throughout the season, students combined these lessons with physical training to prepare for the 5K. The event provided an opportunity for participants to apply the perseverance, teamwork, and goal-setting skills they developed during the program.

Four Kankakee Valley Intermediate School employees—Ms. Hugar, Miss Risner, Ms. Brady, and Mrs. Hooker—served as volunteer coaches, guiding participants through the curriculum and supporting their preparation for the race.

The completion of the school’s 10th season marks a milestone in KVIS’s continued commitment to supporting students’ physical, social, and emotional development. KVIS recognizes the participants for their dedication and thanks the volunteer coaches for their time and service.
