First-grade students at DeMotte Elementary recently traded their traditional classrooms for a journey around the globe, diving into a magical literacy unit centered on folktales and fairy tales from diverse cultures and traditions.

Throughout the unit, students participated in engaging lessons designed to introduce them to enchanting stories, beloved characters, and unique traditions from different parts of the world. To celebrate the completion of the unit, DeMotte Elementary first graders transformed their school into a royal court for a special culminating dress-up day. Students stepped directly into the pages of their favorite books by dressing as princes and princesses. The celebratory day featured a variety of fun, interactive activities—including ballroom dancing—giving students a memorable opportunity to truly step into the world of the fairy tales they had studied.
