A Northwest Indiana Life in the Spotlight: Taylor Jones

While many 17-year-olds focus on high school milestones, Taylor Jones was already learning the meaning of resilience and responsibility. Becoming a mother at a young age shaped her perspective and inspired a lifelong commitment to helping others. Nearly two decades later, Jones has become a respected funeral director, community advocate, and mother of three—dedicating her work and time to supporting families and empowering women.

Jones’ career in funeral service began in 2010 following the loss of her cousin, Lisa. The experience sparked a fascination with the care, precision, and compassion that go into honoring a life well lived. Motivated by that experience, she enrolled in Ivy Tech Community College’s Mortuary Science program in East Chicago. After completing her degree, internship, and licensing exams, Jones became a licensed funeral director in 2014. She immediately began work in the industry, and in 2019, she joined Geisen Funeral Home.

Jones guides families through every step of the funeral planning process by arranging services, coordinating with churches and cemeteries, preparing loved ones for viewing, and ensuring each detail reflects the family’s wishes. She finds deep meaning in her craft, particularly in embalming.

“Ive always been drawn to the art of embalming”, Jones said. “It’s about providing families with peace and allowing them to spend meaningful time with their loved one.”

Beyond her work in funeral service, Jones is a passionate advocate for women and families in need. She supports Safe Haven Baby Boxes, an organization dedicated to providing life-saving options and crisis support for mothers in difficult circumstances. She has also volunteered with Mommy’s Haven, a nonprofit that offers housing and resources for expectant mothers, helping them build stability through education, job readiness, and self-care programs.

“Mommy’s Haven gives women a safe place to regroup and rebuild”, Jones said. “It’s an incredible source of hope and support.”

Her dedication to community service extends even further. Jones has volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Phoenix Center, and she is an active member of Crown Point’s Tri Kappa, a philanthropic organization committed to supporting local causes. Her leadership and creativity also shine through her book club, The Grim Readers, which blends community, camaraderie, and a touch of dark humor—true to her personality.Through her professional work and volunteer efforts, Jones has built a reputation for empathy, excellence, and service. She credits much of her success to the people who believed in her along the way, and she strives to be that same source of encouragement for others.

“I’m grateful for my work family at Geisen Funeral Home, and my Tri Kappa Sisters,” she said. “They all have such genuine hearts for service. It’s an honor to work alongside people who care deeply about their community.”

Looking ahead, Jones hopes her journey inspires others to pursue their goals with determination and self-belief.

“Don’t limit yourself,” she said. “We’re capable of more than we think- We just have to want it enough to make it happen.”
