Congratulations to Merrillville HS for winning the 2026 Duneland Athletic Conference championship tonight!

“My preferred event? It’s definitely the 110 meter high hurdles. I’ve ran it for the past three years about and I just like it because it’s physically demanding and you have to be perfect. I just try and make everything seem as normal as possible. I would psych myself out and I’d get nervous before my event. You can relax, talk to some friends and know that you still have to run but staying relaxed helps me before before stepping on the start line.” -Omar Hijaz (Lake Central)

“I already had number one (Rankings) locked up so I just figured, why not go all in on it and let it fly? But wow! I was like “I didn’t know I had it in me?!” I felt the cheering from my teammates and I just had to put it on for them.
