William Edgar Sly Obituary

William Edgar Sly, 72, of Hanna, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2026 at his home. He was born on December 8, 1953 in La Porte, Indiana to Edgar and Charlotte (Stephens) Sly. Bill is survived by his son Jason W. Sly of San Francisco, California; and his sisters Rita (Dwayne) Westlund of Union Mills and Barbara Bernethy of Michigan City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Raymond Sly and brother-in-law Dave Bernethy. Bill worked as a telephone repairman for GTE (later Verizon) Phone Company before retiring after 37 years with them. He was a huge Chicago Cubs fan. He loved traveling especially with his son Jason and enjoyed riding the open road on his motorcycle. Some of his other favorite past times include fishing, his involvement with the Patriot Guard, Folds of Honor, Blue Star Moms and having breakfast with his buddies.
