Urban League of Northwest Indiana acknowledges outpour of community support amid storm recovery

The Urban League of Northwest Indiana and its Board of Directors express its heartfelt appreciation to Urban League colleagues across the country who have stepped forward with supplies, contributions, and critical support following the severe storms that have devastated communities nationwide. In Northwest Indiana, powerful storms have caused widespread flooding, damaged homes, and left thousands without power. Specifically in Gary, many residents have been without electricity for 10 days, resulting in food loss and urgent shortages of basic essentials.

In response, Urban League affiliates and partners have mobilized quickly. Colleagues have sent emergency supplies, made monetary contributions, and offered direct assistance to help stabilize families during this difficult period. Their generosity reflects the strength and unity of the Urban League movement.The Urban League of Northwest Indiana also acknowledges the significant support of Walmart, whose trucks will arrive Monday, August 24, 2026 with emergency relief supplies.

These materials will be distributed to families during a community event hosted in partnership with St. Timothy Community Church, 1600 W. 25th Avenue from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.In addition, representative from Eli Lily are traveling from Indianapolis on  to deliver cleaning and hygiene supplies and providing charging stations today from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the below locations.
