Tri-Township Jr.-Sr. High School is celebrating outstanding student achievement following the release of the 2026 ILEARN Summative Assessment results, with the school ranking first in LaPorte County among grades 6–8 in proficiency in both Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA).
The results reflect the collective efforts of Tri-Township students, educators, families and school leaders—and demonstrate the impact of using student performance data to provide targeted, timely academic support.
Among students in grades 6–8:
The school also saw significant growth among students who were in seventh and eighth grades during the 2025–26 assessment year.
Seventh grade: 78.6% of students advanced at least one proficiency level in one or both subjects.
Eighth grade: 60% of students advanced at least one proficiency level in one or both subjects.
Superintendent Dr. Paige McNulty said the results are a reflection of the commitment demonstrated throughout the Tri-Township community.
“I am incredibly proud of our students and the tremendous work of our teachers, staff and families,” said Dr. McNulty. “These results represent much more than numbers on a report. They reflect students who persevered, educators who remained focused on meeting individual needs, and families who continued to partner with our schools. Leading LaPorte County in both Math and English Language Arts is an exciting accomplishment, and we are proud to celebrate it while remaining focused on continued growth for every student.”
Throughout the 2025–26 school year, Tri-Township teachers regularly used ILEARN Checkpoint results to identify learning gaps and determine which skills students needed to strengthen.
Teachers then used that information to group students for targeted interventions designed to help them strengthen and master essential skills. These interventions were incorporated into the school’s dedicated 20-minute intervention period, Tuesday through Thursday, allowing educators to provide additional instruction without taking away from students’ daily classroom learning.
Students also had opportunities to receive additional support through the school’s Next Level Teaching after-school program. The program provided extended learning opportunities, additional time for targeted interventions and support completing academic work.
Principal Brian McMahan said the school’s approach was intentional and centered on responding to what the data showed students needed.
“Our strategy was simple: identify what students needed, provide the right support, and give them additional opportunities to practice and master those skills,” said McMahan. “Our teachers used ILEARN Checkpoint data to pinpoint specific areas of need, then worked together to deliver targeted interventions during our intervention period and through Next Level Teaching. The consistency of that approach, combined with the hard work of our students, helped create the growth we are celebrating today.”
School leaders emphasize that while the 2026 results are cause for celebration, they also provide valuable information to guide continued instructional planning.
The school’s data-driven approach allows teachers to identify areas where students are excelling, recognize gaps in learning and adjust instruction accordingly. By combining classroom instruction with targeted interventions and extended learning opportunities, Tri-Township is committed to ensuring students have the support they need to reach their full potential.
“We are proud of these accomplishments, but our work does not stop here,” said Dr. McNulty. “We will continue to study the data, celebrate growth, identify opportunities for improvement and make sure every student has access to the instruction and support necessary to succeed.”
Tri-Township Jr.-Sr. High School extends its appreciation to its students for their perseverance, its educators and staff for their dedication, and its families for their continued partnership.
