On Tuesday, January 28, community members gathered at the Dickinson Intermediate Fine Arts Academy to learn about the latest updates on the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) South Shore Line South Bend Airport Realignment project. DLZ, the company contracted for engineering services, has been hard at work planning and designing a realignment that will move the South Shore Line station from the South Bend International Airport terminal’s east side to its west side. This project will enhance service efficiency, reduce commute times, and improve safety between South Bend and Chicago, and all involved were excited to share what progress has been made since the first open house on April 5, 2023.

On Thursday, March 6, the City of South Bend hosted a steel signing and topping ceremony for the Raclin Murphy Encore Center, a 20,000-square-foot addition to the historic Morris Performing Arts Center. This event celebrated the placement of the last girder in the Encore Center’s structure. Representatives of Larson-Danielson Construction, the project’s construction contractor, were present at the event, along with local elected officials, business executives, city staff, and passersby.

On the evening of Wednesday, July 30, Center for Hospice Care (CHC) hosted a private kickoff event for its Elkhart Campus fundraising campaign at the Wellfield Botanic Gardens. This initiative is intended to raise 1 million dollars by the end of 2025 to support the comprehensive renovation of CHC’s Elkhart Campus. These upgrades will help CHC, a nonprofit organization, further its mission to ensure that everyone has access to hospice support, regardless of their ability to pay. Over 70 guests were in attendance, many of whom were current and former CHC board members and employees. The majority of the guests in attendance had, at some point or another, generously donated funds to support CHC.

The expansion builds upon a previous 30,000-square-foot expansion completed in 2018. The five Sisters who were welcomed to the new leadership team were Province Leader Shirley Bell, Vicaress Deborah Davis, and Councilors Marybeth Martin, Connie Bach, and Margaret Ann Henss. The installation of the new leadership group took place just before the Eucharist.
