Surf Internet celebrates community connections at South Bend Cubs Bobblehead Night

Surf Internet brought bobbleheads, a jersey raffle, and plenty of opportunities to connect with fans as the South Bend Cubs faced the Quad Cities River Bandits at Four Winds Field on June 28. This year’s bobblehead, given out free to the first 1,000 guests through the gates, was everyone’s favorite mascot Stu D. Baker.

Surf Internet, a fiber-optic internet service provider based out of Elkhart, has served the Great Lakes region for the past 25 years, building a reputation for high-quality service, exceptional customer care, and a deep connection and commitment to its communities. The bobblehead night with the South Bend Cubs is just one of the many ways the company engages its current and potential customers.

“One of our core values is integrity. We live and work in the communities we serve, and we’re committed to building relationships and meeting our neighbors. We want to deliver on the promises we make in person,” Surf Internet Regional Market Manager Jordan Holzwart said.

As members of the community themselves, many of Surf Internet’s employees are fans of the South Bend Cubs, so the opportunity to partner with the baseball team is always exciting. Holzwart greatly appreciates the impact the two organizations can make when they work together, such as supporting local nonprofits and community resources.

It’s a relationship that goes both ways. Joe Hart, president of the South Bend Cubs, loves working with Surf Internet to create better experiences for ballpark guests. He is also happy to help Surf Internet share its services with the community, with Holzwart even joining the radio broadcast for a quick interview during the third inning of the game.

“It is exciting to see Surf employees engage our fans and vice versa. This is just a testament to how Surf wants to be ingrained in the community and interact on a face-to-face basis versus emails or phone calls. In this day and age, people still like to communicate with someone in person, and Surf makes a point to do that when at the ballpark,” Hart said.

The bobbleheads are an annual giveaway that draws a big crowd every year. The promotion gives guests a free game souvenir and Surf Internet team members a chance to talk to guests face-to-face. Whether it’s chatting about baseball or sharing information about fiber internet, these genuine interactions are one of the most important parts of building Surf Internet’s connection to its customers.

In addition to the bobbleheads, Surf Internet held a raffle for a South Bend Cubs jersey. All of the day’s raffle entries also included entry into an end-of-season raffle for a VIP suite package.

As guests took their seats, Ideal Beach Triathlon Heart of a Warrior winner Heather Schuh took to the field to throw the first pitch. The Heart of a Warrior award was created in honor of Toby Deweese, a business partner and personal friend of Surf Internet CEO Gene Crusie. The award is presented by Surf Internet at the Ideal Beach Triathlon every year, recognizing individuals who show perseverance in overcoming adversity. Schuh was one of two winners this year alongside Amy Anderson.

“It’s been quite emotional for me,” Schuh said. “I’ve always been a fighter and have worked hard for things I want. This last year has challenged me beyond anything I could ever imagine. I remember forcing myself to go back to the gym to swim, and Gene was there. Gene is one of the most supportive, down-to-earth, caring people I’ve ever met. He has this way of making everyone around him want to be the best version of themselves. That was the start to getting myself back to believing, pushing, and going after my dreams again. To have been awarded this Heart of a Warrior by Surf Internet has been very emotional for me. For Gene to see me as a person to deserve this award just makes me want to fight that much more and keep the dreams strong.”

“Heather has overcome unthinkable adversity to rise again to the highest level of physical competition while being a shining beacon of hope and encouragement. As a working wife and mother, she is a testament to how each of us has an opportunity to live extraordinary lives,” Crusie said.

With 1,000 bobbleheads distributed and hundreds of new friends made, this year’s bobblehead giveaway was another fun day at the ballpark for all in attendance.

“Surf Internet is a company that cares about our community and giving back, which very much aligns with the South Bend Cubs’ mission. We all want to make our communities better, so it is fun and rewarding to partner with a company like Surf Internet,” Hart said.
