BOYS FOOTBALL Portage VS Chesterton 2026
FINAL SCORE: 41-12 Chesterton.
Week 6 is wrapped up as the Trojans defeated the Indians 41-12 in a homecoming matchup full of personal achievements, honors, and awards. The CHS Band, Colorguard, and Dance squads performed several skits to open up the festivities. Mrs. Jessica Evans, a longtime Chesterton Special Education teacher selected three of her students to serve as honorary captains during the coin toss. Chesterton Head Football coach was honored with his 100th win against Michigan City HS the previous week. The CHS Co-Ed Cheerleading squad was presented with a banner prior to kickoff commemorating their Championship win at the Indiana Cheer Championship at the Indiana Association School Principals.
The CHS 2026 Homecoming court finalists were also presented during halftime. A big shout-out to Jackson Vann and Claire Sutter as your nominated CHS 2026 Homecoming King and Queen!
“So we went down for our second time performing our routine for state and this time we actually had one. We got recognized at the state house and school and it was a very amazing and cool thing to be apart of. The program is called the Indiana Association School Principals, it’s like the IHSAA of cheer. Also, there is a stigma regarding male cheerleaders is that we “Aren’t athletes” and that we have to sit back and look pretty. We have to be very coordinated. We have to throw people up in the air and make sure that they don’t get hurt. This is the biggest family I have and I love all of them…all 32 of them!” -Brendan Brady (Chesterton HS Cheer)
“With the game plan, we just ran the ball, ran the clock , and run the scoreboard. It’s just what practice is for, the game plan, where they line up, and how they play the game. We (Isaiah and Lisa) practice plays a lot, we both do and we all have a team dinner every Thursday night and that’s usually where we go. “I was just very nervous but I thought I was loved enough by the community that people would vote for me, and I was very happy with how it turned out. This means a lot to me. I’ve met a lot of great people along the way and I just love being a student here. Honestly, it was the relief that got to me. I built the moment up so much in my head over the past couple of hours that I was just so excited to win.”…”I was super nervous because I thought they were going to do it in alphabetical order. I thought I was out of luck when they announced Jackson Vann’s name first and I was super nervous. The relief after the announcements I felt was unmatched. I think this is super exciting because I love to talk to people> I feel like I have a very wide variety of people that I’ve been friends with and hang out with and it’s super exciting to see it all come together. It was almost like an OMG, this is happening! It was so stressful all week like getting ready for this moment and getting all the votes in.
