Lori K Bath’s Tub or Treat puts a twist on trick or treating, providing fun for the whole family

As Halloween creeps closer, businesses all around Valparaiso are embracing the festive season and celebrating the spooky holiday all month long. On Friday, October 16, Lori K Bath brought the community together for an evening of fun festivities at their fourth annual “Tub or Treat” event.

Hosted at Lori K Bath’s main office, the event was free for all ages and open to the public. Putting a twist on classic trick or treating, Lori K Bath creatively decorated their display tubs and showers.

From 5-7:30 p.m., attendees were able to dress up in Halloween costumes and enjoy kids’ games, music, prizes, candy, and more. Free food was also available, including hot dogs and chips.

“I have this app. I get text messages about free, fun events going on near me, and I just got one about here. This is my first time, so I was like, ‘You know what, kids? You want to go to a trick or treat?’ And we came,” said Taylor Baker, event attendee. “The free books. No one’s ever done that. Giving out free books. I wasn’t expecting that. That was super cute.”

Lori K Bath’s goal was to create a fun, welcoming Halloween event for local families and give the community an opportunity to come together, while supporting other local businesses along the way. All ages were able to enjoy a night of wholesome fun, in anticipation for Halloween in a few weeks.

“This event brings our team and our community together in a different way. Instead of meeting people when we’re in their homes for a project, we get to connect with them in a fun, welcoming environment,” said Events Manager Shyanna Condiff. “We created Tub or Treat as a way to give back to the community, not as a sales or marketing event. This is home for so many of us, and the community has played such an important role in our growth. We want to show our appreciation and create something families can look forward to each year.”

This year, Lori K Bath was excited to open the event to local small businesses and community organizations to participate. Businesses and organizations were encouraged to creatively decorate a trunk or booth in a festive, fun way, while also being able to promote their business by giving away flyers, business cards, coupons, and more.

“We wanted to make the event bigger than just Lori K Bath and create an opportunity for other local businesses to be involved, too. We started as a small company ourselves, so we understand how important it is to get your name out there and build connections in the community,” said Condiff. “Opening up vendor spots gives these businesses a chance to meet new people, build relationships, and connect with community members they may not have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. We love being able to create those opportunities for others while bringing everyone together for a fun event.”

A company built on family values, Lori K Bath’s staff is dedicated to serving their community. With events like Tub or Treat, Lori K Bath continues to stay involved with the people they serve and foster relationships.

“When we first started Tub or Treat at our old location on Franklin Street, it was a very small event. We had only four or five people from our office participating and around 20 attendees, many of whom were previous customers who had been invited. Last year, we welcomed well over 100 people and had approximately 8-10 participating employees, businesses and community members with booths, tents, and decorated vehicles,” said Condiff. “Seeing how much this event has grown in just a few years has been really exciting. Looking ahead to next year, my goal is to have 15 to 20 vendors in addition to Lori K Bath employees, giving even more local businesses the opportunity to participate. Ultimately, we want Tub or Treat to become a community tradition that families look forward to year after year.”
