La Porte County Library to host Build a Dino event

As part of its library programming, La Porte County Main Library (LPCPL) will host its Build a Dino event on Friday, July 31 from 11 am – 12:30 pm in their Meeting Room B.

“It’s an interactive and educational balloon program for people of all ages,” said Carly Kwiecien, LPCPL promotions and marketing professional. “As part of the program we enjoy dino stories, learn how to build a balloon dinosaur, learn how dinosaurs fit their environment, and create a unique dinosaur together as a group. The guests will learn about dinosaur’s strengths, weaknesses, and ecological niches.”

In a way, this program wraps the library’s summer reading program, as its timing aligns with the end of the program near the end of the summer. Both the program and the event also share a dinosaur theme.

“It is a celebration for everyone who participated in this year’s Summer Reading Program, and who have contributed to our community reading challenge, which is to read 480,000 minutes this summer. It’s our summer reading objective for people of all ages, both children and adults,” said Kwiecien.

The Build a Dino event is being held on the day that the library formally announces whether the Summer Reading Program’s goal was reached. So far, the odds are in the program participants’ favor, with a majority slated to meet the goal.

“At this point in the summer, we are definitely on track to meet that goal,” said Kwiecien. “Our library staff is very excited about this and we are so proud of all of our participants who helped us get there. We are cheering you on as you continue to read over the next few weeks.”

This summer, in addition to the Summer Reading Program and the Build a Dino Event, La Porte County has rolled out additional special seasonal programming.

“We’ve had programs and all kinds of activities and crafts out at all of the locations this summer,” said Kwiecien.

These LPCPL locations include the Coolspring Branch, Fish Lake Branch, Hanna Branch, Kingsford Heights Branch, Main Library, Rolling Prairie Branch, LPCPL Exchange, and Union Mills Branch.

“We’re looking forward to hosting more events in the fall,” said Kwiecien. “We have an entire lineup planned and we hope that those who participated in our summer reading program and even those that weren’t able to join this summer participate in our fall events.”

Anyone is welcome to attend the Build a Dino event, whether or not they participated in the Summer Reading Program. The event is free of charge and no registration is required.

“Even if you can’t stay for the entire event and can just pop in, we would love to have you!” said Kwiecien.
