Health Foundation of La Porte (HFL) is pleased to announce its 2026 grant opportunities, one of which is currently open for preliminary applications. Read on to learn about the grants available this year, along with eligibility information and corresponding timelines.
HFL’s Healthy Community Fund provides mini, small, and medium grants to support health and wellness needs in the community and capacity building needs to strengthen La Porte County nonprofits. All Healthy Community Fund grant requests must align with HFL’s mission: La Porte County residents are healthy and well. Organizations that are
501(c)(3) nonprofits and governmental entities that provide services or programs benefiting residents of La Porte County can apply for HFL grants.
Beginning January 9, HFL is accepting Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) as the required first step for medium grants. Medium grants are requests for $25,001 – $100,000 for projects or programs that align with HFL’s mission. LOIs are due by January 31, and applicants will be notified of the LOI decision by February 7. Only applicants that receive a favorable reply to their LOI will be invited to submit a full application. Full applications for medium grants are due by March 20.
Please note: All LOIs and grant applications must be submitted through HFL’s online grant portal.
HFL’s Healthy Community Fund also provides mini and small grants. Mini grants (up to $5,000) and small grants ($5,001 – $25,000) are accepted on a rolling basis from February 1 through October 31. These grants feature a simplified application and reporting and do not require an LOI or invitation to apply.
Each year, HFL accepts grant requests for the When Seconds Count: AED Initiative beginning February 14. These grants provide lifesaving AEDs (automated external defibrillators), cabinets, and signage. Interested organizations should mark their calendars and plan to submit their AED grant application as soon as possible as the number of AEDs is limited.
Applicants and partners can also call (219.326.2471) or email (contact@hflaporte.org) the foundation any time to discuss grant applications, reporting questions, or collaboration ideas. New this year, HFL has instituted bimonthly Grants Office Hours. On the second and fourth Mondays of each month, HFL’s Community Investment Team is available to answer questions and provide assistance to applicants and partners. Registration is not required, although individuals wishing to join Grants Office Hours virtually need to register to receive a virtual meeting link. Visit the Grants Office Hours page to learn more or request a link.
HFL anticipates issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for large grants in spring 2026. We will provide additional information, including dates, as it is available.
