The Valparaiso campus tour focused on workforce education and skills training

Ivy Tech Community College welcomed Governor Mike Braun to its Valparaiso campus on Wednesday for a tour and discussion focused on workforce education and skills training needed in Indiana.

During the visit, Gov. Braun met with Ivy Tech leadership to discuss how the campus is prepared to meet the evolving needs of employers and employees in the Valparaiso area.

“Ivy Tech’s training model is one of the strongest workforce pipelines in the state,” said Governor Mike Braun. “These programs give students real experience with real equipment, creating graduates who are prepared to step directly into good jobs on day one. Employers depend on this talent pipeline, and Hoosiers benefit from an affordable education that leads to lasting careers.”

The visit also included a tour of learning spaces where students are gaining hands-on experience in fields such as Nursing, HVAC, Welding & Energy Technology.

“What’s important about Governor Braun’s visit today is he is all about workforce. He understands that college is not the path for everyone and today he got to see Ivy Tech, the space where those careers get their start in the best way possible,” said State Trustee for Ivy Tech Community College, Stewart McMillan.

Earlier this year, Gov. Braun signed Senate Enrolled Act 254, which updates Ivy Tech’s statutory mission and governing structure. As Indiana’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s only singly accredited community college, Ivy Tech serves more than 213,000 students with more than 70 programs and 40 learning locations across Indiana designed to lead directly to in-demand careers or seamless transfer opportunities to four-year universities.

“Ivy Tech is Indiana’s workforce engine. We are delighted to welcome Governor Braun to Valparaiso,” said Campus Chancellor, Aco Sikoski.
