Crown Point to host annual Spring-Clean Up April 24 

The City of Crown Point will celebrate Arbor Day with a ceremonial tree planting  and its annual Spring Clean-Up.  

Mayor Pete Land and City staff will hold a ceremonial tree planting at 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, at Bridgeport Park at Jackson and Monitor streets.  

The City of Crown Point has been a proud Tree City USA Community for 24 years and is one of 10 municipalities recognized as a Tree City community in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties. In 2026,  the City received a Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation for the second year in a row.  

The Growth Award recognizes major milestones and annual activities, including the City’s tree  planting ceremony/Arbor Day festivities.  

City staff and volunteers will convene for the City’s sixth annual Spring Clean-up Day from 3-5 p.m.  Friday, April 24, at the Crown Point Sportsplex, located at 1313 E. North St. Gloves, garbage bags and  grabbers will be provided.  

Volunteers will have the opportunity to clean up debris. Participants should dress in comfortable  clothing and shoes they don’t mind getting dirty. 

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Gamma Rho Omega Chapter will hand out 100 free tree  saplings while supplies last. This year’s sponsors include Able Paper, Christopher B. Burke  Engineering, Commonwealth Engineers, Inc., and Milestone Contractors.  

Last year, the City had approximately 30 participants at its fifth Spring Clean-up Day. Volunteers  collected dozens of industrial-size garbage bags of trash across the City, including, but not limited to,  downtown, parks, behind businesses and the side of well-traveled roads. Those interested in volunteering should contact Spring Clean-up Day Coordinator Heather Evans at  hevans@crownpoint.in.gov.
