After UnitedHealthcare reached out to President and CEO of Crossroads Chamber Deann Patena about a potential partnership that would bring healthcare perks to the chamber’s members, she was quick to jump at the opportunity.
“We’re always looking for different ways to add value to our chamber membership. We thought that this was a great way to be able to provide chamber members with this account for their insurance. We did it to add value for our chamber members,” Patena said.
Through this partnership, Chamber members get a 5% discount off their insurance along with a host of benefits, including the perks of the Chamber’s Better Health Benefits for Small Businesses:
Having worked as the liaison between UnitedHealthcare and Crossroads Chamber for five years, Account Executive of Small Business for Chicago/Northwest Indiana for UnitedHealthcare Carla Cohen assists in connecting employers within the chamber to a broker to provide a quote.
“I really enjoy working with the chamber and other partners because it feels like we’re all working toward the same goal—helping people,” Cohen said. “When we can offer accessible health care options, it’s not just about benefits; it’s about making life a little easier for local businesses and their employees. I love being part of those conversations and building relationships that make a real difference in the community.”
According to Cohen, chamber members can have potential savings of up to 34%1 on monthly premiums for UnitedHealthcare’s level-funded product. Employers pay a fixed monthly fee to give their employees access to this level-funded product, which includes claims funding, administrative costs, stop-loss insurance, claims data transparency, possible rebates2, and more.
“It helps the chamber member businesses and helps the local community with potential savings of up to 34% on monthly premiums for our level-funded product. ‘Level-funded’ refers to a type of health insurance plan that combines features of self-funding and traditional fully insured plans,” Cohen said. “Our level-funded product is ideal for small to mid-sized businesses that want more control and potential savings without the full risk of self-insurance. It offers predictable monthly costs like a fully insured plan, but if claims are lower than expected, the employer may receive a refund at the end of the year.”
Cohen and Patena would encourage other chambers and businesses to partner with UnitedHealthcare to take full advantage of its affordability, benefits, and support.
“We have had members join just for the health insurance benefit. I think it says a lot about the program that people join just so they can have that health benefit. Not only do our members benefit from the arrangement of the healthcare but we also have insurance brokers who benefit by selling it to our members, which presents another opportunity,” Patena said. “Healthcare is important right now, and I’m happy that we provide a valuable resource at a less expensive cost for our members and our small businesses that may not be able to afford it through another avenue.”
