Part of Milton Village, Milton Adult Day Services (MADS) provides a structured setting to adults who need health, social and support services during the day. The environment provides a home- and town-like setting where individuals have more regulated independence and less institutional-style programming.
Designed in cooperation with the Netherlands-based Vivium Group, Milton Village is a revolutionary concept in care and the first of its kind in the United States. MADS and Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana (ALZNI) make up Milton Village. MADS takes care of those dealing with cognitive conditions while ALZNI is a resource for their caregivers and loved ones
The MADS model gives guests the opportunity to spend their day in a natural and engaging environment, choosing where they would like to spend their time throughout the village and grounds. Because of their model, volunteers make a meaningful impact by leading daily club and activities such as happy hour in the pub, expressive art projects, games and other interest-based programs. Another role volunteers fill is spending time with guests, engaging in conversation, sharing stories and fostering the sense of camaraderie and connection at the heart of MADS. Milton Village recently started twice-monthly palliative care appointments. Currently, the program is primarily focused on individuals living with dementia who are experiencing sundowning and other symptoms that may be improved through palliative care interventions. When appropriate, a referral is made to Center for Hospice Care’s palliative care team. This model is a valuable resource for families as it provides additional support, symptom management and care planning.
The team at MADS is excited to continue to roll out new programs and clubs. The primary goal remains providing guests and their families with the support, resources and services they need while enhancing their quality of life. As the program grows, the MADS team will be able to extend its reach and impact to even more families.
