The City of Crown Point took another step toward strengthening its emergency response capabilities with the unveiling of a new ambulance for the Crown Point Fire Department (CPFD) on Wednesday, November 4.
The unveiling provided an opportunity for city officials and fire department leadership to showcase the new emergency vehicle and discuss its role in serving Crown Point residents. With this ambulance, the city will be able to continue supporting its first responders and ensuring that they have the equipment and resources necessary to respond to emergencies throughout the Crown Point community.
Crown Point Mayor Pete Land is looking forward to the impact this new ambulance will have on the City of Crown Point and its commitment to public safety.
“The purchase of a new ambulance and getting out to serve our community, our residents, our visitors, and anybody who needs our help — that level of investment is paramount,” Land said. “I’m grateful to the City Council and the Center Township Board for partnering with the city to make this day happen.”
For the Crown Point Fire Department, having reliable emergency vehicles is an important part of providing timely and effective service. The new ambulance will support the department’s efforts to assist residents during medical emergencies and other situations requiring emergency medical services.
“There’s improved safety technology that helps us stay out of crashes and improves the ride and comfort for the patient,” Baumgardner said. “A lot of times, we take people with back problems or broken hips, so a smooth ride is a really big deal for them.”
Baumgardner noted that not only is this the first ambulance like this, but it also provides liquid suspension — a feature that makes it a huge improvement over previous ambulances.
Beyond the vehicle itself, the unveiling also highlighted the people behind the city’s emergency response efforts. Firefighters and emergency medical personnel play an important role in protecting the community. As a result, making investments in their equipment is an important part of maintaining the department’s readiness while helping out residents in the most effective way possible.
“We put a lot into all of our emergency services, such as police and fire,” Land said. “One of the responsibilities the city has is to get them the tools needed to do their job properly, which is a protection for all of us.”
As Crown Point continues to grow, maintaining dependable emergency services remains the utmost priority. The new ambulance represents another investment in the department’s ability to meet the community’s needs and provide assistance when residents need it most.
“We hope people never need us, but usually they do,” Baumgardner said. “We are always trained to be ready at a moment’s notice to handle anything from a cat stuck in a tree to someone’s worst day when their heart’s not beating. We are a Swiss Army knife of solutions to these problems.”
This ceremony also introduced the newest full-time firefighter, Alejandro Lomeli, who was a 2023 graduate of Crown Point High School. Lomeli was sworn in by the firefighter oath.
