A Michiana Life in the Spotlight: Monica Mango

Monica Mango is the owner of Multi-maids Cleaning Service. With a name like that, you know her cleaning service will leave your house smelling fresh and clean.

Multi-maids Cleaning Service is a residential and commercial cleaning company in the Michiana area. While the company was started in January 2020 by Mango, that is not how her story started. Mango, though local, was born and raised on the East Coast.

“I was born in Mount Vernon, New York, and I moved to South Bend with my mother and sisters around 1989,” Mango said. “We grew up in the middle class. My mother was a single mother, and she still always made us feel loved. She would spoil us every chance she got. After high school, I attended Ivy Tech Community College in South Bend-Elkhart.”

Through relocations, physical setbacks, and many obstacles, her ambition to be a business owner never wavered.

Just two years into opening her cleaning services, Mango was involved in an accident with a boat propeller that rendered her leg broken in two pieces. Her motivation for success is what got her back on her feet, in more ways than one.

“My doctor told me that I wasn’t able to walk on my left leg for about four weeks, and I was so devastated,” Mango said. “After about five months, the cast finally came off. It was still a struggle though, because I had to rehabilitate my leg and learn how to walk again. I still think about the accident sometimes, but I’m able to work through it.”

When the world and job market struggled to provide, Mango turned to God. She tried her hand at a number of positions, occupations, and career paths before pouring her time and energy into her personal business of Multi-maids.

“My first job was working as a legal assistant. The pay was really good, but then I lost that job. Eventually, I took an admin recruiter position at Just Energy, and I loved being back in an office environment. I left in 2014 when I had my daughter. I wasn’t working, and every job I tried wasn’t enough to cover rent and daycare.” said Mango. “So I prayed to God to help me start my own business. I was out one night listening to a guy talk about his cleaning businesses, and once I started Multi-maids, it blew up overnight.”

While the success of the business took off in the blink of an eye, it was Mango’s steadfast resilience, her need to be a provider, and her unwillingness to settle that guided her from career woman to businesswoman.

As the owner of this business, Mango manages multiple responsibilities, including serving as an office manager, handling recruitment, sales, marketing, and much more. Mango continues to build her client list and touch the lives of her community members through her personable demeanor and willingness to help anyone at any time.

“I am a people person and I love to help out whenever and wherever I can,” Mango said. “I believe in delivering the best customer service possible to all of the people that I serve in the Michiana area.”

When Mango is not spearheading her own company, she works as an assistant at a local roofing company in Michiana. Other interests of Mango’s include volleyball, writing, and ballet. She also enjoys supporting her daughter from the sidelines at her volleyball games and spending time with her kids.

“I’m currently in the process of writing a book about my life called ‘High Heels to Heaven.’ It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and I’m really excited to finally share my story and experiences,” Mango said.

As a woman who wears many hats, Mango is looking ahead to new possibilities. In her free time, you can find her exploring her creative side through potential authorship and doing whatever she can to connect with her community and make a buck while smiling.
