It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s the superheroes of Aviva Valparaiso. On Tuesday, September 29, the Glamour and Giving Superhero Fashion Show created an evening of special costumes and a reason to celebrate.
The audience was packed to celebrate the local superheroes, as this celebration has quickly become one of the most anticipated events that Aviva Valparaiso hosts every year.
“This event is all about giving back to the community. Aviva Valparaiso likes to support the community where our staff and residents work in, grew up in, or raised their children in. We invite the Valparaiso community in to help support our residents and be a part of the community we have built at Aviva Valparaiso.” Tricia Catlin, Aviva’s director of sales.
Last year, Aviva Valparaiso rolled out the red carpet to celebrate a handful of fashionable outfits in a partnership with Heart to Heart Hospice and The Closet Exchange. The judges presented awards for the Most Creative Outfit, Best Outfit, Best Smile, Best Makeup, and Best Hair.
This year’s sponsors included Heart to Heart Hospice, Life Care Center Valparaiso and the Closet Exchange. They each contribute to the event in their own way to support the cause and we at Aviva Valparaiso are truly grateful for our partnerships.
“We gave all of the residents who participated this year flowers. Last year, we did awards, but all of them were winners, and we didn’t want anybody feeling less than somebody else. We want everyone to feel like they have contributed” said Catlin.
Not only was the Glamour and Giving Superhero Fashion Show an opportunity for people to see their favorite heroes in the flesh, but it also helped support a good cause. Monetary and canned donations from the event will benefit 500 Turkeys, an organization that provides Thanksgiving meals, clothing, prayer, and year-round support to families in need across Northwest Indiana.
“What they do is great for the community. What I found out through the process of promoting this event is that people don’t know about 500 Turkeys. That is something I want to continue doing: educating people on what the organization does and help continue to support 500 Turkeys,” said Catlin.
While there is plenty of excitement for these superheroes to show off their costumes, the day is an opportunity to recognize the residents of Aviva Valparaiso and give them a memory that they will carry with them forever.
“We hope this event gives everybody a good memory that they carry with them for the rest of their stay,” said Catlin.
Thinking of ways to bring these events to the residents and the Valparaiso community is at the forefront of what Aviva Valparaiso wants to do. Outstanding care, comfortability, enhanced health and happiness, elevated quality of life, and a dynamic and welcoming environment are some of the key standards that the assisted living facility takes pride in providing for its community.
“For these kinds of events, my goal is to promote Aviva Valparaiso to the community and let people know about us,” said Catlin. “If we put on a fun event, we hope people willparticipate and find out more about us. We also involve the residents and give them a space to have fun.”
Aviva Valparaiso will continue to collect donations of canned goods or toothpaste through the end of October.
