The IHSAA Men’s Wrestling Semi-State meet was an eruption of cheers, emotions, hugs, and technique on the mat! The lucky wrestlers who won their respective matches have officially punched a date down to the State Finals next week!
“As an individual. I try to block out the fans as much as possible because that’s only a distraction on the mat. In my mind, I’m just thinking, “Wrestle tough, wrestle as tough as I can.” You don’t ever want to come off the mat with a lot of energy, because then that means you didn’t give enough in your match.” “It’s definitely nerve-wracking for sure, but you could find a way to put all those nerves away and wrestle freely” -Mason Litke (Griffith HS)
“Mentally, I just try keeping a clear headspace and it’s just “Me Vs. Him” out there and I think it’s all it is. Really, It’s whoever has the stronger mindset who wants to win. I think that’s probably 80% of the matches there let alone. From there, it’s all the technique that you put in and practice.”…”It starts at the start of the season, building up all that confidence, all the technique, and all the stamina. We work for this and this isn’t the end result we want. We’re hoping for next week on top of the podium (IHSAA State Men’s Wrestling Finals) and that’s the end result you want. -Griffin Van Tichelt (Crown Point HS).
