- “It’s just to go fast because when I get in the water, I shut my brain off. I have this internal tempo in my head that helps me just get through it because if I think about it, then my whole body starts to hurt and I start slowing down. If I don’t think about it and only focus on going fast, then I just go fast.” “Practice makes perfect, so when you do youer normal practice, you don’t just do the minimum. You try and do the best you can because that pays off more than anything.” -Izzy DeJesus (Valparaiso)
- “Honestly, not a lot was going through my mind. I just really wanted to get out the pool. I wanted to make podium which was my goal for today even with my two-three, I didn’t make it. I was short, but on the five, I knew I was going to get it. I worked hard, did a pace-50. Everything was feeling great up until 454-50 is when it started feeling real bad. I pushed through and then I got third place. As a freshman, it’s pretty good and I’m ready to see sectionals!”…”Always be friends with the people around you. Valpo and Chesterton are archrivals and those guys on the team (Valparaiso) are amazing dudes. It’s awesome to just bond with them and become friends so no one’s rude to each other. That’s the biggest part of the sport. Sportsmanship goes a long way away for every single person. It’s just what it is.” -Daniel Vidt (Chesterton)
- So anytime we secure the win for conference, it’s always a tradition to jump in the water and off the diving boards. I was a diver myself in college and in high school and I always try to do something fancy for them. I’m not good at it, it’s been since 2020 but that’s basically the tradition. The only reason why is because the sport is very immensely draining at times and they put a lot of work in it. Outside of competitions they train hard, they practice a lot of numbers, dives, and reps. Sometimes you have to take some smacks in order to get something proper and they worked their butts off. With both swimming and diving, it was a big team win, we all cooperated together and it was a good performance.” -Elijah Mercado (Chesterton HS head diving coach)
