Tonight was also Pop Warner night as the Chesterton elementary and Jr. High feeder football and cheer programs from Kindergarten to 8th grade were honored with their respective coaches. The Chesterton Dance Team performed during halftime and absolutely stole the show! Chesterton HS Applied skills teacher Mrs. Jamie Evans had two students as honorary Trojan captains during the captain’s meet and the coin toss.
“So our whole goal as cheerleaders is to not only get the crowd hyped, but the team as well. If we’re able to provide a constant stream of support towards the team, then that can make a big difference; especially being somebody who has been on the field with cheerleaders. So us giving a constant amount of noise and support, it can make the difference between a loss and a win. So that’s our whole plan.” -Ethan Wood (Chesterton HS Cheer)
“We’re going to get as many crowd cheers as we can…It’s a big rivalry so we’re going to get the crowd involved as much as we can!” -Elijah Shelton (Valparaiso HS Cheer)
“You know, our coach (Kania). He says every single game…we win a game up front, and we did that! So it was really personal to us. In my opinion, we dominated up front. We had a really great game. We executed perfectly, there’s a lot of diversity, and we handled it perfectly so I’m really proud of my guys and I love them. We’re all brothers. We have a family and we’re so excited right now and just taking this in right now!” -Jack Gearhart (Chesterton HS- Offensive Center)
