YWCA of Northwest Indiana Announces 2026 Circle of Friends Gala Honorees, Celebrating Leadership, Service, and Community Impact

The YWCA of Northwest Indiana proudly announces the distinguished honorees for its 2026 Circle of Friends Gala, taking place October 8, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana.

“This year’s honorees represent the very best of Northwest Indiana—leaders whose service, advocacy, and vision embody the YWCA’s mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and strengthening communities,” said YWCA of NWI board president Michelle Johnson.

The gala, hosted by ABC7 Chicago journalist Samantha Chatman, will shine a spotlight on individuals whose work uplifts families, advances equity, and strengthens the social fabric of the region. Their recognition comes at a pivotal moment, as the YWCA continues to support community recovery following the devastating August 11th storm, which left thousands without power, food access, or essential resources.

A Gala Rooted in Service and Resilience

This year’s celebration carries special significance. Following the August 11th storm, the YWCA Northwest Indiana became a critical community resource hub, partnering with the City of Gary to provide:

  • Food distribution
  • Temporary shelter
  • Shower facilities
  • Charging stations
  • Resource information

Executive Director Caren Jones reflected on the organization’s role during the crisis:

“When our community found itself in the darkness—literally and figuratively—the YWCA of NWI answered the call without hesitation,” said Jones. “We became a safe haven for families who had nowhere else to turn. This gala is more than a celebration; it’s a lifeline that allows us to continue being the unwavering resource our community relies on in moments of crisis.”
