Viking Sports Report 4/1 – 4/7/2022

VHS KICKS OFF THE SPRING SEASON:

Softball

4/1 – The Varsity Softball team kicked off their season with a 1-0 victory over New Prairie High School. The first pitch was thrown out by Coach Lev!

4/4 – The Varsity Baseball team follow the Softball teams lead and started off their home season with a win, defeating the Hebron Hawks 11-0. This was the first home game played at VHS since 2019. School Board Member, Dr. Rob Behrend, and Coach Pat Murphy threw out the ceremonial first pitches. Freshmen Caden Crowell pitched a great game throwing 88 pitches , with 42 of those pitches being strikes! Nathan Guzek came in to pitch the last inning and closed out the game. Logan Lockhart had 3 at bats, with 2 hits, 2 runs and 3 batted in.

4/5 – The Varsity team lost to LaPorte 9-4. Dillion Rodriguez pitched 4 innings and had 6 strikeouts. Griffin Zborowski came in for the last 2 innings and struck out 4. Thomas Vo had 3 at bats, 2 runs and 1 hit.

4/5 – The boys Track & Field competed in their first outdoor meet vs. Lake Central. Below are the winners:

• 800 meter run – Caleb Marconi
• 1600 meter run – Jimmy Dillabaugh
• 3200 meter run – Joel Bryant
• 4×400 meter relay – Aidan Donofry, Tyler VerSchure, Hugo Fagen & Vasilis George
• 4×800 meter relay – Patrick Brogan, Trent Hoadley, Nick Gring & Gabriel Sterling
• High Jump – Charles Dauterman

GIRLS TENNIS

Girls Varsity Tennis shut out the Hobart Brickies 5-0 at their opening match. The JV also got the win 7-2. Below are the scores:

• #2 Singles Maddie Braming won 6-0,6-1.
• #3 Singles Emily Hatseras won 6-0,6-0.
• #1 Doubles Kallie Belcher & Izze Piggott won 6-0.6-0.
• #2 Doubles Laney Mario & Raegan O’Halek won 6-1,6-3.

JV

• #1 Singles Sara Carcas Rodrigo won 8-1.
• #2 Singles Reagan Williams won 8-5.
• #3 Singles Maria Greanias won 8-0.
• #1 Doubles Katie Shideler & Zoe Cusson won 8-2.
• #2 Doubles Maggie Kuka & Nina Borowiak won 8-1.
