Two Indiana State Police Sergeants Receive Service Awards

Two-Indiana-State-Police-Sergeants-Receive-Service-Awards-01Lieutenant Mike Young, district commander of the Indiana State Police Toll Road Post, recently recognized two Indiana State Police sergeants for their continued excellent service to the community during a meeting of the Indiana State Police at the Toll Road Post.

Sergeant Tana Summers received an award recognizing her thirty years of service. Sergeant Summers is a Hobart High School graduate and received an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Vincennes University in Evansville. She was sworn in as an Indiana State Police trooper on November, 18, 19984 and was assigned to the Lowell District working Lake and Porter Counties. Summers was later assigned to Public Oriented Policing for 1 ½ years before being promoted to sergeant on the Toll Road in 1996. Sergeant Summers has been a Field Training Officer, Tactical Intervention Platoon member; a counselor at the Indiana State Police Academy recruit school for three years, in 1985 received an award for top DUI enforcement, and received a million safe driving miles in 2008. Summers resides in Porter County.

Sergeant Jeffrey Whiteman received an award recognizing twenty years of service. He is a Saint Joseph High School in South Bend graduate and received a Master’s Degree in Criminology from Indiana University in Terre Haute. Whiteman was a dispatcher for the Indiana State Police at the Bremen Post before he was sworn in as a trooper on December 4, 1994. He was assigned to the Bremen Post where he worked Elkhart County for five years before being promoted to Corporal and reassigned to the Toll Road. Whiteman was promoted to Sergeant on the Toll Road in 2000 where has been a supervisor for troopers working Steuben, LaGrange, Saint Joseph and Elkhart Counties. He has been a Field Training Officer, Tactical Platoon Intervention member, Defensive Tactics instructor, and served on the oral interview board for ISP recruiting. Sergeant Whiteman resides in Saint Joseph County with his family.
