For the first time in school history, Chesterton Middle School will have three eighth grade student representatives at the 2015 Indiana Junior All-State Band on Saturday, January 17. Those students are Madison Ghoreishi, Madeline Joesten, and Holly Kittredge. The Junior All-State Band is one of many ensembles performing at the Indiana Music Education Association Convention being hosted this weekend at the Grand Wayne Convention Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This auditioned ensemble is comprised of approximately 100 of the finest musicians in grades 7-9 from the entire state of Indiana. The students spend two nights in Fort Wayne with rehearsals all day putting together an elite program of music. The guest conductor of the band is Mrs. Cheryl Floyd, Director of Bands at Hill Country Middle School in Austin, Texas.
“This is a huge honor for these students to be selected to the Junior All-State Band,” explained CMS band director Vince Arizzi. “We’ve had students audition several times since this group was formed six years ago, but this is the first time that students from CMS have made it in. It will be a long weekend for them with lots of work, but a rewarding and memorable experience for sure.”
“I’m really excited to go this weekend,” notes eighth grader Madeline Joesten. “The music is pretty tough, but I’m sure the band will be very good!”
The performance will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 17 at the Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne and is free and open to the public.
