On Saturday, October 3, the Winamac Old Auto Club teamed up with Team Chevrolet of Valparaiso to host the annual car show and cookout. This event brought together car enthusiasts, members of the community, and people who live in Northwest Indiana.
This event was open to all cars and free for the public. From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., attendees had a chance to browse between classic cars and new rides.
As a part of its mission statement, Team Chevrolet of Valparaiso is dedicated to serving its customers, employees, and the community. This can include comprehensive automotive maintenance, commercial truck care, vehicle sales and genuine parts service. On top of the work it does to assist each customer, the dealership takes pride in celebrating with the customers in a way that focuses on building relationships and local community involvement.
“It’s a great community event that brings people together. We have everything out here today with a great display of classics and current model sports cars. It’s an overall great way to bring the community together and give car enthusiasts a chance to get together, share their passion and talk about the cars they love,” said David Brubaker, general manager of Team Chevrolet.
For several years, Team Chevrolet of Valparaiso has partnered with the Winamac Old Auto Club to bring this event into fruition. Glen Ewen, president of the Winamac Old Auto Club, values this partnership the auto club has with the dealership.
“Our relationship with Team Chevrolet has always been a wonderful experience. They are the nicest people. They always give us a nice lunch, and they’ve been so good to us with donations in any way possible. It’s our honor to be here with them,” said Ewen.
Staff members were interacting with guests throughout the event to learn about the history of each person’s car. The car show not only welcomed rides from all eras, but also people from various experience levels in the car community. Whether someone has been a member for three years or three decades, the conversations at this event were meaningful for people to learn more about these custom builds.
“Team Chevrolet sends out a flyer, and they open the event up to anybody that wants to come. Reaching out to certain folks, like those in a nursing home, can be really helpful for the event, since we know that the people in nursing homes like the older stuff. They want to see something that they have driven in the past years, and they come and talk to us and they say, ‘Oh, I’m so glad to see that. I used to have a car like that,’” said Ewen.
Team Chevrolet of Valparaiso’s car show is just one of the ways that its team members work to make a difference for the community it serves.
“We’re really proud to be involved with Valparaiso High School athletics and to support the school and its programs throughout the year. We try to be there whenever we can and support the events and activities that bring the students, families, and community together. Giving back to our community is very important to us. Our company gives 10% of its profits each month to local nonprofits in the communities we serve, and we’re always looking for opportunities to support the organizations and programs that make a difference in our community,” said Brubaker.
In support of 500 Turkeys, Team Chevrolet of Valparaiso will also be providing Thanksgiving meals to families throughout Northwest Indiana. If you were unable to attend the car show, donations will be accepted at the dealership from now through the end of October.
