Surf Internet drives in a hole-in-one at the Charity Golf Classic to support Five Star Life

On Thursday, September 24, Surf Internet loaded up the golf carts to hit the green for its inaugural Charity Golf Classic. Hosted at the Bent Oak Golf Club in Elkhart, this event brought together employees, partners, vendors, and additional community members.

Surf Internet has been looking to launch the Charity Golf Classic for some time. This year’s inaugural event drew support from more than 50 corporate sponsors and partner organizations, including the South Bend Cubs, Netceed U.S., and the UNICO Group. All of the proceeds from this year’s event go directly to benefit the youth and community programs run by Five Star Life.

Five Star Life was created with the goal to set kids up for success. Through mentoring, leadership curriculum, and hands-on experiences at its summit campus, the programs run by Five Star Life allow students to build confidence, discover their purpose, and connect learning to the real world.

Brent Williams, chief operating officer of Surf Internet, is grateful to have such a strong partner network come together to support Five Star Life.

“When we started looking for an organization we wanted to support, we had an opportunity to visit their facility. We fell in love with what they were doing for young people around the area,” said Williams. “It was a natural fit for us.”

There are many challenges that young people face today. Claire McGuire, development coordinator for Five Star Life, believes that Five Star Life’s approach, along with Surf Internet’s support, is what helps alleviate these struggles and turn them into positive learning experiences for the youth.

“The impact of today will carry on for all of the generations to come. The money that has been raised today will be used for a driveway relocation project, which is so important for the safety of all the students and staff who come to our campus,” said McGuire. “It is going to be majorly impactful for the future of Five Star Life.”

Not only does this event help support a positive cause for the community, but it also creates a networking opportunity for Surf Internet team members and the people they work closely with. 

“One of our core values is having fun,” said Surf Internet’s CEO, Gene Crusie. “We have the opportunity to work with great people who are often spread out across the country, so getting everyone together to have some fun for a great cause is really important. We all want to make a difference in the world and live more impactful lives. This is one way we get to do that.”

Community involvement is an important part of Surf Internet’s work as the company continues expanding its fiber network across the Great Lakes region.

“What I’m really enjoying is seeing people who have never played golf before play with people who are really good. The fellowship and the camaraderie are great,” said Crusie. “It’s a huge blessing to be able to be here together.”
