Strack & Van Til helps Salvation Army do the most good this holiday season with $100,000 donation

Strack & Van Til presented the Salvation Army with a donation of $100,000 in gift cards to kickoff the Red Kettle season. The donation continues a long partnership between the two organizations and demonstrates Strack and Van Til’s commitment to “Doing the Most Good.”

The $100,000 is the perfect start to the Salvation Army’s iconic Red Kettle Drive ahead of the holiday season and helps the Salvation Army assist families in need as winter approaches, ensuring they can get nutritious meals for the holidays.

“We can’t do it by ourselves,” Northwest Indiana Salvation Army Area Commander Troy Barker said. “The Salvation Army was founded on volunteerism, and we need people in the community to help us meet the needs of the areas we serve. These gift cards will be equally distributed to our four locations in Northwest Indiana: The Salvation Army of Gary-Merrillville, The Salvation Army of Porter County, The Salvation Army of East Chicago, and The Salvation Army of Hammond-Munster.”

Strack & Van Til has been a strong supporter of the Salvation Army for years. The grocery chain has been able to donate gift cards to the Salvation Army for several years in a row, and the Salvation Army is also a frequent beneficiary of Strack & Van Til’s Checkout Challenge Round Ups.

Strack & Van Til has been giving back to its community since its earliest days, and partnering with organizations like the Salvation Army helps create an even wider impact.

“We’ve been doing this gift card donation to the Salvation Army for the past five years to help families that might need some extra assistance around the holidays,” Strack & Van Til President Jeff Strack said. “We support organizations that enhance the quality of life in the communities that we serve. We really believe that, when the community does better, everyone does better.”

Strack & Van Til’s relationship with the Salvation Army extends back to David Wilkinson, who was a member of the Salvation Army during his 16-year tenure as president and CEO of Strack & Van Til. 

“We’ve developed that relationship over the past 30 years,” Strack said. “The Salvation Army is a great organization that probably doesn’t get enough credit for what they do in our community. We’re happy to be a proud supporter of their work and to have that relationship with the organization.”

The Salvation Army is grateful to have a partner like Strack & Van Til to support its mission during this holiday season.

“We have a wonderful partnership with Strack & Van Til. They help us out through the roundup challenge, the gift cards, and so many other things. They’ve been a blessing to the Salvation Army and the community,” Barker said. “We couldn’t do it without them.”
