While the South Bend Cubs may be in the midst of the 2025 season, that hasn’t stopped Four Winds Field from finding a way to bring in talented musical performers. On Wednesday, August 27, the field will transform into a concert setup as the community welcomes Tyler Hubbard, one-half of Florida Georgia Line and solo artist, for a high-energy show at Four Winds Field. The show will also feature special guests such as Drew Baldridge and Colt Ford.
Joe Hart, team president of the South Bend Cubs, always looks forward to bringing some of the best musical acts to Four Winds Field.
“It’s exciting when you can get any sort of musician to come to a city to play, but to be able to host it at Four Winds Field is even more exciting,” Hart said. “We have a great venue, and this is a great community ballpark. We use it a ton for baseball, but to be able to do extra events here and provide entertainment for our region is pretty special. When you get a guy like Tyler Hubbard from Florida Georgia Line, that’s a pretty big name.”
According to Hart, this is the first time that Four Winds Field has hosted a country concert since 2018. The decision to bring the country atmosphere back to the facility came from a combination of the previous experience being so successful and the community long awaiting the return.
“We did two concerts last season, and a lot of it is just getting artist schedules and their tour dates to line up with our baseball schedule. When we’re playing 66 home games a year, those are committed dates that you have to work around. Whenever we have an opportunity to bring something like this in, we’re going to hop on it. This is about giving people a chance to come out and enjoy something before the summer ends and the kids go back to school.”
An event that invites three impressive, modern-day country artists is sure to create buzz around the city. Hart views this as a great chance for people who don’t live in the South Bend area to check out what there is on offer in this community.
“It’s great because we’re going to get a lot of people coming in from out of town,” Hart said. “Maybe those folks are staying at the hotels downtown, or they’re eating at the restaurants. I think it’s good for the local economy. It helps bring people to downtown South Bend and showcases what the city has to offer. Some folks may not like baseball, but they like music. If we can get people to come to the ballpark and see how nice the facility is, maybe they will come back and try a baseball game.”
Another way that this concert benefits the South Bend Cubs is by demonstrating to the community how the organization’s impact can go beyond baseball.
“We want South Bend to be known for this great facility of Four Winds Field,” Hart said. “It’s always a fun time whenever we bring a bigger artist in here. We’ve even had Ludacris here before. It’s important for people to know Four Winds Field as a venue for more than baseball. The artists, South Bend residents, and the people who come from out of town are all sure to have a great time, and that only helps us out.”
The decision to bring in a name like Hubbard was impossible to pass up. When it came to incorporating performers such as Baldridge and Ford into the show as well, Hart attributes that to Hubbard’s agency and the relationship they have with these artists.
“They provided us with a list of artists that Tyler likes to play with,” Hart said. “We went through the list, and that’s how it got started. Drew Baldridge played an event here a little over a year ago and had a great showing, so we figured it was a great fit. He and Colt Ford stood out to us, and we knew it would be phenomenal to bring them in with Tyler.”
While the identity of Four Winds Field is best associated with home runs or double plays, it’s a grand slam opportunity for the South Bend Cubs to expand this reach to benefit their team and the South Bend community.
“I’ve been doing baseball for 31 years and love it everyday, but I also love doing these concerts,” Hart said. “It’s something different for us as a staff. You see a different fan base that comes out here, from both the baseball games and sometimes between every concert we do. This is a versatile facility, and we’re blessed for this opportunity. It’s not just a South Bend concert; it’s really a regional concert. I know we’re going to bring so many people into our facility and our community, and that helps us continue to highlight what we have here.”
Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. for the show, and the music begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the concert are available online.
