South Bend Community Hall of Fame Banquet

Last evening, a crowd of 700 gathered at the Century Center in South Bend for the 39th Annual South Bend Community Hall of Fame Banquet, hosted by the South Bend Education Alliance, where seven residents were honored for their service and commitment to the betterment of the greater community. Among the honorees was Pete Buttigieg, former Mayor of South Bend, presidential candidate, and past secretary of transportation under the Biden administration.

The other honorees include: Darryl Buchanan, Richard Feldman, M.D., Steven Goldberg, Fran McDonald, D.P.T., Lu Ella Morrow Webster, and posthumously, the Rev. Donald McNeill, C.S.C. The program was emceed by TV personality Bob Montgomery, and featured remarks from each of the honorees, Superintendent Mansour Eid, South Bend Community School Corporation’s leadership and high school principals, and former Mayor of South Bend Stephen Luecke.

While the purpose of the evening was to celebrate the honorees, there was an opportunity to make a gift to the Education Alliance, which supports students in various way with supplies, sports equipment, special fees and more.

The banquet is traditionally a sell-out, but had a larger demand this year with Buttigeig’s addition, as he is the most prominent recipient to receive a Hall of Fame recognition.
