S*NG!, a more than month-long singing workshop led by opera professionals, is coming to IU Northwest this summer.
S*NG! is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between IU-Northwest’s School of the Arts and Chicago Fringe Opera. Participants will work alongside professional opera singers to improve their singing and acting ability while having fun through games, exercises and other activities. Due to the complex direction of some of the activities, the recommended age to participate is 18 or older.
S*NG! is comprised of eleven sessions over six weeks, starting May 18 through June 24, 2026. Classes will meet in-person on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-7 p.m. CST in the Black Box Performance Studio at 3415 Broadway.
Registration is $50 and is open and available on the IU Northwest website. The first seven participants will receive a fee waiver, and IU Northwest is also offering reduced fees for Indiana and Illinois educators.
Admission to the S*NG! course is on a first-come, first-enrolled basis, with a maximum of 16 places available. No prior experience in acting or improvisation is necessary, but participants should be confident in singing by themselves in public. Singers across all voice types, ranges and styles (including classical, gospel, musical theatre and pop) are welcome.
All Indiana University events/programs, groups, activities, educational, cultural, and historical observances are open to all members of the Indiana University community.
