On Thursday, August 14, Regional Care Group hosted its 50th anniversary celebration at the Gary SouthShore RailCats’ SteelYard stadium. Employees of Regional Care Group and its three subsidiary organizations – Regional Health Systems, Geminus, and Lake Park Residential Care – were invited to enjoy food, fun activities, and fellowship during the first half of the day, and were then able to have their families join them for a RailCats baseball game later that evening. Over 450 employees turned out for this historic event.
Bill Trowbridge, president and CEO of Regional Care Group, considers the SteelYard to be an excellent location for the 50th anniversary event. He is pleased to be joining his employees for the celebration of this exciting milestone.
“We started out as just a community mental health center. Now we have ballooned in size and in the scope of what we do,” Trowbridge said. “We wanted to have a day to celebrate this anniversary and recognize our employees for the awesome work they have done and will continue to do. I’m incredibly proud of them, and I’m so impressed by what they are able to accomplish. We have so many people serving the public in their own specific way. I couldn’t be happier with what we have at Regional Care Group.”
In 1975, the Southlake Center for Mental Health was incorporated and united with the Tri-City Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center in 2009. This new organization would later become known as Regional Health Systems and go on to join Geminus and Lake Park Residential Care to form Regional Care Group in 2021. Today, Regional Care Group offers integrated care — a one-stop shop for health care and social services across a person’s lifespan.
“Over our 50-year existence, we’ve served hundreds of thousands of people in different capacities,” Trowbridge said. “We’re in the community supporting people. Regional Care Group has had a tremendous impact on the Region from a social service standpoint. I would say that our success is immeasurable in that regard.”
During the celebration, the attendees could participate in a photo scavenger hunt, play cornhole, and even pose for pictures with Rusty the RailCat, the RailCats’ beloved mascot. They also had the opportunity to test their pitching prowess by participating in the fastest pitch contest being held at the stadium’s speed pitching area. The attendees enjoyed a wide selection of food including chips, burgers, hot dogs, and salad. The attendees also entered a raffle, which allowed them to win prizes like a Shark FlexBreeze fan, a Ninja Smoothie Blender, a three-piece pan and saucer set, gift cards, and Bose headphones.
Trowbridge has high aspirations for the future of Regional Care Group and its selection of services it provides.
“In the next 50 years, we will continue to find ways to better serve the individuals and families that we support,” Trowbridge said. “So many of our clients need more than just one service, so we take a holistic approach to care. Our goal is to support our clients in as many ways as they need. As we continue forward, I intend to find new ways we can grow the organization in a manner that complements the work we do. We want to ensure that the entire family unit has access to the services they need.”
