Purdue Federal Credit Union celebrates family, community, and ‘Purdue Pride’ at 4th Annual Family Day 2025

Purdue Federal Credit Union celebrates family, community, and ‘Purdue Pride’ at 4th Annual Family Day 2025

On the afternoon of Saturday, September 27, Purdue Federal Credit Union (Purdue Federal) hosted its 4th Annual Family Day at its Crown Point branch. Purdue Federal staff and executives, their families, and residents from throughout the community came out to enjoy the sunshine and celebration.

Although most of Purdue Federal’s branches are in the Lafayette and West Lafayette area, the credit union has proudly served the Northwest Indiana community for more than a decade. Purdue Federal offers services for members of all ages, from youth to seniors.

“The Annual Family Day event keeps getting bigger every year,” said Sean Lavelle, Sales Manager at Purdue Federal. “It’s about giving back to the community and showing members that this is a fantastic credit union that can do a lot to support them. Hosting this event is just one of the things that sets us apart from other credit unions. I look forward to Family Day every year.”

This year’s Family Day featured a wide range of activities, including mini golf, a jumbo Connect Four game, cornhole, face painting, and a coloring station. Players from the Lake County CornDogs minor league baseball team joined the fun, along with Cornelius the Corn Dog, their fun-loving mascot. Leo the Lion, Purdue University Northwest’s (PNW) beloved mascot, also stopped by to pose for photos with fans.

“This has been a wonderful way for us to give back to the community over the past four years,” said Lindsey Kilty, Community Relations Specialist at Purdue Federal. “It’s also a great opportunity to celebrate our partnerships with both PNW and Purdue University West Lafayette. At Purdue Federal, we want to be our members’ trusted financial partner for life, through every stage. Hosting a family-oriented community event like this shows that we are here for everyone.”

Meet-and-greets with Purdue athletes are a longstanding Family Day tradition. This year, the PNW cheer and hockey teams joined the celebration. The cheer team performed and mingled with guests, while the hockey team challenged attendees to score on a mini goal set up in the branch’s drive-thru lane.

Trey Kaufman-Renn, star forward on the Purdue Boilermakers® men’s basketball team, also made the trip from West Lafayette for a meet-and-greet. Fans of all ages lined up for autographs on hats, posters, and shirts, and posed for photos with him. They enthusiastically chatted with the rising star and wished him luck in the upcoming season.

“We’re excited to connect with the community and bring some Purdue Pride to Northwest Indiana,” said Carrie North, Assistant Vice President at Purdue Federal. “There are so many Purdue fans and alumni here in the Region, and we wanted to bring them some excitement today. I also hope everyone leaves knowing more about the great services and account offers we provide, not only to Purdue alumni, but also to everyone.”

Purdue Federal staff set up a table to share information on current promotions, including a $50 match on the initial deposit of a new youth savings account and a $400 bonus for opening a new checking account with direct deposit and paperless statements. Representatives from Region News Team’s 107.1 The Z kept the energy high with music, while a Kona Ice truck helped guests beat the heat with shaved ice treats.

“We love bringing Purdue West Lafayette and Purdue Northwest together at this event,” said Matt Scheuer, Account Vice President of Business Development for Northwest Indiana at Purdue Federal. “It’s a wonderful way to highlight these relationships in the community. While we appreciate the chance to build relationships, what matters most to us is being a valued part of the community. We want people to come out, feel welcome, and have a great time. That really means a lot.”
