Portage High School hires Rich Davis as new head girls basketball coach

Portage High School is proud to announce the hiring of Rich Davis as the new head Girls Basketball coach, marking the beginning of an exciting new era for the program.

Coach Davis brings a wealth of experience at both the high school and collegiate levels. Most recently, he served as the head girls basketball coach at Michigan City High School during the 2024–2025 season. Prior to that, he spent several years coaching at the collegiate level, including roles as an assistant men’s basketball coach at both Florida Southern College and the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay. From 2006 to 2013, Davis served as the head men’s basketball coach at Saint Joseph’s College. With experience on the sidelines of NCAA tournament-caliber teams, Coach Davis brings postseason knowledge that will elevate the Portage Girls Basketball program.

In addition to building a culture of success in the program, Coach Davis is a leader who holds his athletes to high standards and expects even more from them as representatives of their school and community. He is committed to teaching accountability, teamwork, and personal growthto our student-athletes.

“Without question, we are beginning a new era of Girls Basketball at Portage High School,” said Athletic Director Brett St. Germain. “We are extremely fortunate to welcome a coach who not only brings a deep understanding of the game but who also leads with integrity and purpose.”

Rich and his wife Kristi are the proud parents of three daughters and currently reside in Chesterton, Ind. We are thrilled to welcome Coach Davis and his family to the Portage Athletics community.
