Methodist Physician Group Physician Spotlight: Dr. Mona Nour, Family Medicine

Dr. Mona Nour is a primary care physician with Methodist Physicians Group in Merrillville. As a primary care physician, she specializes in preventative health, women’s health, pediatrics, patient education and support, and long-term lifestyle changes.

“I see patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly,” Dr. Nour said. “I really enjoy all the aspects of family medicine.”

Dr. Nour grew up in the area. She was born in Culver, moved to Crown Point, and later to Valparaiso. She attended Indiana University Northwest in Gary for a pre-med degree. After earning her undergraduate pre-med degree, she took a gap year as a scribe at Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus in Merrillville. During this time, she realized Methodist Hospitals and Northwest Indiana were where she wanted to practice.

“My dad, an immigrant from Egypt, was a physical therapist,” Dr. Nour said. “His background in medicine impacted my interest in practicing medicine. I pretty much knew I wanted to be a doctor, but I still took a gap year at Methodist as a scribe.” Dr. Nour then completed medical school at Marian University in Indianapolis, which is now in Mishawaka.

The opportunity to practice in the same area where she grew up is special for her. Once she began practicing, she started to notice how diverse Northwest Indiana is and really appreciates that.

“Growing up here, it didn’t really register exactly how diverse the area is,” said Dr. Nour. “While in my residency and as I began to practice, I began to notice how diverse it is – ethnically, religiously, culturally, and age-wise. I really appreciate that about our community.”

Dr. Nour appreciates Methodist Hospitals and her colleagues. She cherishes her team and the tight-knit culture of Methodist Hospitals.

“I’ve always felt really welcome here,” she said. “I feel like everyone knows everyone else, and I absolutely love that. At work, I’ll get an email from someone I know or run into someone I know, and that is a culture that not every hospital has. I feel really lucky to be able to experience that.”

She values her relationships with her patients and strives to always make those relationships as strong as possible. Her goal is to ensure people feel heard, supported, and cared for.

Dr. Nour is raising her own family in the community where she grew up. Her extended family remains in the area as well.

“It’s great to have so much family around,” said Dr. Nour. “I absolutely love it.”
