Lend a Shoulder Day celebrates our students, educators and supporters

Four of our Northwest Indiana network schools — Nativity of Our Savior, Queen of All Saints, St. Casimir, and St. Stanislaus in East Chicago  — welcomed more than 100 supporters for our 5th Annual Lend a Shoulder Day last week.

This special event celebrated the incredible work of our students, educators, and the community that stands behind them. From the moment guests arrived, classrooms were buzzing with excitement as students proudly shared their projects, talents, and dreams for the future. A huge thank you to our school hosts for opening their doors and to everyone who joined us for this fun and impactful day of connection and inspiration.

Throughout the morning, participants had the chance to see Big Shoulders Fund’s mission in action, from testing the buoyancy of different objects in water to joining students in kindness circles to show how one act of kindness can ripple outward to others. Adding a special highlight to the day, Sofia, a student from St. Casimir, delivered a moving speech about how Big Shoulders Fund has positively impacted her life, reminding everyone of the impact of their support. These moments reinforced that the investment of time, resources, and care creates a ripple effect that extends far beyond a single school day.

This year’s theme, “Small Steps Lead to Big Dreams,” beautifully captured the essence of the day. Every encouraging word, every act of support and every moment of engagement contributes to a student’s journey toward a brighter future. Whether it’s a kindergartner learning to read or a fifth grader exploring science and technology, progress happens one step at a time.Together, we make those steps possible.

Thank you for lending your shoulders to help our students dream big and for continuing to walk alongside them every step of the way.
