Korellis continues to give back to the community

Korellis continues to give back to the community

A few years ago, Korellis, a Hammond-based roofing and building envelope contractor, established an initiative to give back. Launched by the organization’s Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP) Communications Committee, the program has provided valuable assistance to numerous local and national organizations, with Korellis employees dedicating their time to working directly with them.

“Our committee continues to plan as many outreach opportunities as possible,” said ESOP Communications Committee Chair Myra Serrano. “Outreach opportunities include charitable events, collecting donations, and sometimes an activity in the office. Most of these opportunities take place in Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland.”

Past events have included the Salvation Army Bell Ringing at Strack & Van Til, making blankets for cancer patients at Phil’s Friends, collecting school supplies and snacks for the local students supported by Purdue University Northwest’s Roaring Back to School, and making meals for those in need at the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago. Last year, Korellis employees donated Christmas gifts through ESOP’s collaboration with Project Christmas Hope to those affected by the hurricanes in Western North Carolina.

This past year, Korellis added some new service opportunities for its employees. This included contributing at Humane Indiana Shelter and Adoption Center and participating in the United Way Northwest Indiana’s Day of Caring.

In August, Korellis also helped Franciscan Health by donating a mobile market at its Hammond location. While the company has assisted at this location with the mobile market many times, Korellis has never fully sponsored the market. The company made the decision to do so when it learned that Franciscan Health did not have a sufficient amount of funding to host as many markets as it did in the past. As a result of Korellis’ initiative and generosity, over 200 households received meals.

“A lot of the ideas come from suggestions of Korellis’ own team members,” Serrano said. “It has certainly become one of our priorities to give back to the communities that we work for on a daily basis.”

The company is always looking for new and more opportunities to get involved through community engagement.

“We continue to look for new volunteer opportunities in all different categories,” said Serrano. “In the future, we would like to get more involved in Hammond as we take pride in giving back to our community.”

As Korellis’ team grows, so do the ideas for charitable activities. Local organizations that need assistance are encouraged to reach out to Korellis for help.
