Kankakee Valley Superintendent Mr. Don Street Elected President of Indiana Small and Rural Schools Association

Mr. Don Street, Superintendent of the Kankakee Valley School Corporation, was elected president of the Indiana Small and Rural Schools Association (ISRSA) during the organization’s annual meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. Street steps into the statewide leadership role after serving the previous two years as vice-president.

Street brings decades of dedicated experience to the position. He began his career in education as a teacher in 1991 and transitioned to educational administration in 1993. With 13 years of total experience as a superintendent—having successfully led the Kankakee Valley School Corporation since 2019—Street said he is deeply honored to take the helm as ISRSA president.

In his new role, Street will lead organization meetings and guide critical policy discussions impacting more than 180 school corporations across the state. While ISRSA members help identify key issues and priorities, the Board of Directors makes final decisions, with the President playing a central role in steering that decision-making process. Additionally, Street will work closely with and provide oversight to ISRSA Executive Director Christopher Lagoni, assisting in evaluating and identifying service-member partners that advance the organization’s mission.

The ISRSA serves as a vital statewide advocacy and support organization representing the legislative, financial, and operational interests of small, town, and rural public-school districts. The association acts as a unified voice at the state legislature, tackling crucial issues such as funding equity, local control, and resource allocation to ensure every student in Indiana has access to a high-quality education.

With his extensive administrative background and a steadfast commitment to educational equity, Street is well-positioned to guide the ISRSA and advocate fiercely for Indiana’s small and rural schools in the years ahead.
