IU Northwest sees largest increase in headcount, credit hours across IU campuses

For the first time in over a decade, Indiana University Northwest has experienced a substantial increase in its enrollment numbers.

The campus’s headcount is up 7.2% year-over-year — the highest percentage increase among all IU campuses — reaching 3,260 students this fall. From 2023 to 2024, enrollment at IU Northwest remained stable with more than 3,000 students.

For the second straight year, the Northwest campus saw an increase in credit hours, up 8.8% to 38,597, the highest year-over-year percentage increase in credit hours across IU.

There was also an 8.6% increase in full-time equivalent (FTE) to 2,599.8, indicating students are taking larger course loads.

“At IU Northwest, we are thrilled to welcome one of the largest groups of new students in more than a decade, and we are equally grateful to our returning students who continue to see the value of pursuing their education with us,” said Arrick Jackson, Chancellor of IU Northwest.

“These increases reflect not only the trust students place in IU Northwest to provide a high-quality education, but also the resilience and dedication of our community. Together, our new and returning students are strengthening the vibrant campus culture that makes IU Northwest such an exceptional place to learn and grow.”

The positive trends at IU Northwest are in line with positive trends across the entire Indiana University system. IU saw a record 25,308 new undergraduate and graduate students enroll this fall, and IU Online surpassed 10,000 enrolled students for the first time.
