HealthLinc celebrates 10,000-square-foot expansion to Mishawaka clinic with Larson-Danielson, Facet Architecture, and community

HealthLinc Community Health Center celebrated the expansion of its Mishawaka Clinic with a ribbon cutting ceremony, giveaways, free health screenings, and more on September 24. The over 10,000-square-foot expansion will support HealthLinc in fulfilling a growing need for healthier communities and accessible healthcare.

The expansion builds upon a previous 30,000-square-foot expansion completed in 2018. With new exam rooms, spaces for specialized care, and a dedicated training site for Healthlinc’s Behavioral Health Residency Program, the growth of the Mishawaka clinic is set to have a major impact on the surrounding community.

“We create healthy communities,” said Melissa Mitchell, HealthLinc CEO. “This space will make sure that we can give people access to affordable healthcare right here where they live.”

HealthLinc knew that a larger facility was necessary to continue effectively serving the Mishawaka region.

“There was a great community demand. We identified that we had services and waitlists that needed significantly more support in this area,” Mitchell said. “We had a great opportunity to expand here, giving us more space to provide those services.”

The completed project, which broke ground earlier this year, will provide help to address the growing needs of the community in a building that provides functionality, accessibility, and beauty.

“We’re very happy with this expansion,” HealthLinc Chief Financial Officer Joan Bondi said. “This is a beautiful space with even more potential for growth. Behavior health, chiropractic, podiatry – we have a lot of opportunities here.”

The project was conducted by Larson-Danielson Construction Company and its sister company Facet Architecture using the design/build approach, which helps simplify the construction process from start to finish. Larson-Danielson completed the 2018 expansion using this approach as well.

“The design/build approach really streamlines the process and improves efficiency,” John Binkowski, Facet Architecture design technician, said.

“Having both construction and design collaborating from the onset, looking out ahead together to make sure we’re meeting the needs of the clients makes things a lot easier throughout the project,” added Jeff Jensen, Larson-Danielson vice president and project manager.

HealthLinc and Larson-Danielson have a relationship stretching back over a decade. Completed projects include the expansions of the Mishawaka clinic as well as medical building construction and expansions in Michigan City and Valparaiso.

“We did the major renovation here in 2018, and they called us back to help them expand and provide more services and serve more patients,” Jensen said. “Being able to partner with HealthLinc and help them grow means a lot to us. Being called back to do this project is a testament to the relationship we’ve been able to build.”

HealthLinc is grateful for the reliable, quality work Larson-Danielson has consistently provided over the years. Beyond just the functionality of the buildings, the relationship the two organizations have built ensures that work for HealthLinc includes the more nuanced needs of the clinic.

“Larson-Danielson has been an incredible partner. We’ve worked with them for years,” Mitchell said. “They understand our needs, they understand our requirements, and they understand how important it is that the buildings we serve our patients with be beautiful so that our patients have dignity when they come in for healthcare. They’re great partners.”

Community members who attended the celebration were able to learn more about the services that will be offered at the expansion while enjoying food grilled on-site by HealthLinc employees, balloon animals and toys, face painting, and temporary tattoos from Balloontacular Entertainment, and tracks spun by a live DJ. Dr. Flossy and Dr. Linc, HealthLinc’s cat and dog mascots, even stopped by to check out the new building!

HealthLinc’s Mishawaka clinic is located at 420 W. 4th Street in Mishawaka. Those seeking affordable, accessible healthcare to make their community healthier are encouraged to visit to see the new expansion.

“Come and check it out!” Bondi said.
